I've just imported some EMAX II samples into the Esynth, rev 4.62, and found some sounds haven't translated too well.

Seems to be the filter settings that suffer. The Esynth's 4 pole filter and Q settings, looking like they translated well, with a precise frequency rather than a 0-120 Fc number, sounded thinner, lacking weight and bottom end. Although there's a good selection of filters, I haven't been able to exactly recreate the original sound.
Any theories on this ?

Has anybody been bothered by the noise of the Esynth rack's fan ? It's not just the whirring but the whining as well. I replaced mine with a Papst but didn't get much improvement, so have disconnected it. There's a lot of free space inside and ventilation on the power supply casing so I'm hoping it should be OK.

I personally wouldn't disconnect any type of fan. I would hate to melt something...

As for the filters. Every unit has different sounding filters. I would suspect that if you have the Ultra samplers, they would all sound the same. The E5000 Ultra would sound like the E6400... They use the same engine. Now for your synth, they may not have the same sound engine. And really, how the filters work is really what makes synths and samplers different.... and copy writeable.

For example. If I try using the softsynth that comes standard with cubase sx and make a pretty simple patch and then try to duplicated that patch in my emu, the sounds are completely different even with the same settings. The emu's filter cuts deeper then the softsynth's filter. By doing some tweaking I might get something simular, but it's never going to be exact since the filters used are programmed different.
