I wonder, is it possible to sample, sample edit and layering effects (with or without the rfx32) at the same time as the sequencer is running? Before I buy an ultra line sampler i have to know if i can tweek sounds in real time and hear it change in my song at the same time.

Yes, you can, assuming that with sample edit you mean changing things like sample start, loop or filters, adsr and so like.

what type of sample editing then is impossible? I would guess bit reduction? And you are super positively sure that one can sample and sequence at the same time?

i am pretty sure you cant sample and sequence at the same time....

you have to enter sequence mode to sequence

and pressing the sampking button to record a sample or do a SCS?i transfer of one descontinues the sequencer mode

you sample stuff and then assign them to a keyboard...when assigned to a keyboard a sample is called a voice

you can assign controls to lfo's and filters in a voice and control there parameters while you sequence

eg: Use and mid controller to filter while you sequence

hope that answers your question

but the emu for the sound..not the sequencer...i never actually use the sequencer....unless i'm making hip hop

sample editing includeds looping/filtering/time stretch (wish sounds aaaaamzing) and really all the normal ones you find in soundforge or wavelab...you can even compress and gain up samples

the gain is amazing and i use this and the time stretch most often when i am sampling editing

i usally sample and trunicate in recycle and then gain and filter in emu and then add the sample to a voice and further filter and LFO stuff and really change the sample up

sampling and sequencing cant be done on anything

thats like trying to record in protools/cubase and trying to edit what your recording at the same time.....its not possible

You might want to check that. I believe you can sample from the standard outs while the sequencer is running on an E4 Ultra. At least thats what my manual says

you may want to take a look at the EOS manual:

Resampling: This function allows you to resample the main outputs as
you are playing. Resampling lets you build up extremely dense sounds or
record a sequence of notes to be played back with a single key. (p.192)

And I know you can certainly assign realtime controls to effects parameters and sample start/stop points and record those midi messages in the sequencer so they play back exactly how you recorded them.

How it's done is another story... I've never really been able to find a use for the built in sequencer either.

That was what I was thinking about. You can also assign midi cc to patches that are played by the sequencer, and change them while the seq is playing.
