External power supply possible?

Hi all,
is it possible to use an external power supply in order to get rid of the internal fan and all the noise? Because I use my E6400 only in the studio, it doesn't matter if the power supply is inside the box.

Any suggestion and ideas?

The internal PSU supplies +5V, +12V and -12V. If you find one that provides these voltages at sufficient current, sure you can do it. But is it really worth the extra hassle of tearing out and rewiring stuff?

Plus, you need that internal fan to cool the motherboard components and the hard drive, not just the power supply. I wouldn't get rid of it.

You can replace the fan with a quiet one.

There's an excellent article on replacing the fan, and soundproofing an E6400 in general at this site:
