Hard drive power specs... 1.7 or 2.0?

I know the E-mu web site says max 1.7A, but several of the drives listed as working on that page are rated at 2.0A for spin up... which shouldn't work if the 1.7A max is true. Even the hard drive I currently have in my e6400-Classic is rated at 2.0A on spin up, but it runs just fine.
