(nearly insignificant) hard drive puzzles

Just added an internal hard drive to my e6400 Ultra (the poor bastard had been relying on a SCSI connection to my e6400 Classic), and I noticed something interesting when comparing the Disk screens on the two units.
While the Classic lists its hard drive as D1 (with the floppy as D8), and Ultra lists its new hard drive as D8 (with the floppy as D9).
No, it's not really a problem or anything, I'm just curious as to why it would happen.
But the main thing is, I can report complete success with a Western Digital Caviar 40GB EIDE hard drive (7200RPM, 2MB cache, ATA-100 -- model WD400BB, 3.5" form factor)... running EOS4.7, FAT32 formatted.
And it's a lot quieter than the 9GB IBM drive I have in the Classic.
Oh, and a great big thank-you to the web site of Andrew Checkley for the great and detailed instructions regarding installing your own hard drive without the E-mu kit... especially the fantastic diagrams for reversing the power plug polarity
