E4K internal HD

I would like to change the existing 270Mb SCSI HD inside my E4K to an 18Gb HD.

I have had a look on eBay and there are so many different types.

What should I look for?
How many pins? 80?
I read somewhere I might have to swap a couple of wires round. Is this correct?
How do you set the ID on the new drive?
Any purchasing and installation advice for a complete neophyte?!

Thanks,

Gilles

I know from experience that you'll need to reverse the cables for the power molex if you're not running an official Emu upgrade kit. But that's a simple job (even I could do it! ).
As for the other qustions I'm not sure, but I have a feeling they are answered somewhere within this forum. I seem to recall running accross them.
Keep us posted as to how you get on. I'm probably gonna make the upgrade soon. I've done it on an E6400 Ultra (EIDE), but I have an E-Synth classic (and soon an E-Synth keys), that'll probably go on the operating table. ;)

Please forgive my complete ignorance! I suppose that's the square plastic thingy with two wires that supplies power to the HD?!

Does the HD have to be of a certain (physical) size or are they all the same?

I'm a bit nervous about this and I wonder whether I ought to replace my external 1Gb HD instead!!!!!

Yes, the white semi transparent 4-socket connector with black, yellow and red cables.
You need a standard sized drive that would fit in your PC, not the smaller Laptop size.

There was a link that explained all this. I'll see if I can dig it out for you.

Thanks. I did try to look for it but it was like looking for a piece of hay in a stack of needles.

So which ones need swapping?

Gilles,

Given that you are replacing an existing internal drive, you should not need to change the wiring of the power connector as it should already be in the appropriate configuration.

Regarding the Hard drive spec, a 50 pin SCSI connector is probably what is used inside your EMU but finding 50Pin SCSI drives these days can be a bit difficult. You may be able to use a 50 pin to XX pin adapter to allow you to use 68 or 80 pin drives but somebody else will need to confirm this.

Cheers,
