Yes, the HDD is just for storing sounds. If your bank doesn't contain any sounds, you could easily save your set-up onto a floppy disc.

But then, it seems a waste to use such a good instrument only as a MIDI controller.

Since your internal HDD is gone, if you don't fancy a bit of DIY, you could get yourself an external SCSI HDD. I got mine for close to nothing on Ebay. Add a SCSI CD-ROM, a couple of cables and a handful of CDs and you could have a very powerful machine for well under UK?100/US$200.

Where are you based?

Hi gcoudert,
Thanks for the info, I have managed to sort out a HDD Phew! What a job people here in SA can be such snobs anyway I have been able to get a 68 pin plus an adapter from the UK of course the HDD from here (S.A.)

As I've said and asked on another thread the person who I got the Controller from never gave me the 'Boot Up' Discs now I'm sitting in a situation I still cannot use the E4K without the Boot up Stiffy discs...Is there ant way that someone can help mme by e-mailing it to me if there is please PM me and I will give you my e-mail address...Please help..

Here in S.A. I don't think there's many here with this powerful machine

For you over there a SCSI CD ROM is not so expensive as it is here, I have priced a 50Pin SCSI and the cheapest is from R3000. onwards but with it's built in SCSI when I've fitted a new one Won't the machine be just as powerful as the SCSI CD Rom and a handful of CD's?...This is not a sarcasm question it's just so that I know whichis the best way of utilizing my E4K and by the way if you where now to purchase a E4K what would you pay? it would be very interesting to know what they go for now...Many thanks

I got my E4K in december and paid UK?240 for it. But then it's not in pristine condition (sticky buttons, a couple of damaged keys, etc.). I upgraded it to 128Mb sample RAM, EOS3.0 and added an ASCII keyboard. But, hey, it's an Emulator 4!

External SCSI CD-ROM players do come up on Ebay regularly in the UK. They're probably cheaper here than in S.A. but postage from the UK to anywhere in the world is relatively cheap. If you can find a seller in the UK who'll sell it worldwide, you're onto a winner.

You will definitely need some HDD (internal or external) to save your edited sounds. You can't just work from CDs. If you wanted to, say, change the filter setting on a sound, you wouldn't be able to save it and would have to change it every time you want to use that sound. It's not worth it. Since the keyboard cost you nothing, it's worth investing in a SCSI CD player and HDD. That'll still be cheaper than buying a working E4K.
