SCSI to USB for external Hard Disk connection?

Hello!
A lot of talk has been going on lately about how it is very difficult, or almost impossible, to connect the Emu to a computer using one of the SCSI-to-USB cables widely available in eBay.
But I was wondering: Would it be easier to just use on of those cables to connect an USB external FAT32 Hard Disk to the E-mu? If the E,u could read that drive, then we would would have a very simple way to move banks to and fro the computer, even if both the Emu and the computer are never directly connected.
Has anybody tried this? Sorry if it has already been discussed.
Cheers!
Juan
