CDXtract or Translator?

Working on Windows XP and tried demo's of both and both seemed a bit buggy (crashed etc)

I don't even want to translate I just want to be able to read EMU sample CD's and transfer to ZIP and/or JAZ in the same format so I can load into my Esynth Ultra.

I did buy a yamaha SCSI cd but it seems they aren't the most compatible so rather than take another chance on a CDROM I thought a piece of software to write to the ZIP and JAZ drives I've already got might be the way forward. (I've got a RolandnS-760 as well so thought I'd be able to get some use out of software for this as well.)

I would imagine the 'full' versions would be less buggy so I'd be interested in some user input.

Any other software do this? (enable me to read EMU disks and copy to another location - no translation required). How about ZoEOS?

Thanks

Jon

CDXtract can read Emu format but not write it - even if there's no actual translation in between.
Translator can definitely do what you want (although it is a bit flaky - as you've found). If I remember correctly, the free demo version should be able to move stuff around in the way you've described - you might not even need the full version.

Cheers - thought that may be the case. However, whenever I tried this with the translator demo it freezes and needs a task manager shutdown. I hoped the full version would be more robust.
I honestly thought this would be a very simple thing to do but clearly it isn't!

Any other utilities out there?

Jon

You can do this with the backup function using just your Emu.

Just to clarify. The samples are not on the EMU. I have the EMU 9 CD set but my SCSI CD drive (yamaha) didn't play. Rather than mess about trying to find a compatible drive I thought I'd use my PC to copy the EMU disks onto a ZIP. I have a pc ZIP and a scsi ZIP but no way to get the samples from the CD's to the ZIP. My plan was to use translator to copy from the CD to a file and drag that to the ZIP which would then be used to load the EMU.

Apparently, translator will do this but I've had no success testing it out with the demo
