Hi,

I have just by an e6400 and have 2 questions about upgrading.

1) Which EOS can I put in to my e6400?
2) If I can only have EOS 3.0b. How can I upgrade my e6400 to get a newer EOS?

My e6400 has got:
128Mb RAM
1Mb CPU RAM
2Mb CPU Flash and a total of ?Memory Config. of 512kb.

To upgrade to Ultra status is more trouble and cost than it's worth. Just look out for an Ultra sampler on ebay - much less hassle.

I don?t see any technical trouble. The only problem I see is if there any possibility to get the hardware.

Well, First I want to upgrade my CPU Ram to 4Mb, and wonder if there are other 72pin SIMM cards than E-mus which can be used?

Ebay usually has RAM for EMU's available:

Do you have a PC or a MAC? If you have a PC I'd get an Adaptec 2906 SCSI card and Soundforge. That way you can transfer samples from Soundforge to your EMU via SCSI. The Adaptec 2906 is the best thing I ever bought for my EMU. I don't even use the EMU's onboard sample editor any more-I do everything including effects in soundforge and just zip it over. The Adaptec 2906 SCSI card solved a lot of problems I had using my EMU, saved
me a lot of time and all around made the EMU more fun and easy to use.

I think I remember correctly: You say you have 2 MB CPU Flash you could actually install EOS 4.62 available from E-mu website, it?s not needed to have 4 MB CPU Ram but 'recommended', trouble that can be caused is when you load some banks which contain lots (i.e. hundreds) of presets, it then might not even load certain banks because there's not enough CPU/Preset Ram, but you could overcome this be importing presets into bank,err...
If your music is based on your own samples and you're not relying on named banks causing trouble, you could try it (I take no responsibility).

In addition I had no idea how to update to 4 MB CPU Ram these days. Best solution may be to exchange your model against one that has it build in, or buy an Ultra model.
