It depends are which type internal or external??

If external go for a lagre a drive as possible there is a list on the E-mu site somewhere and it seems the most popular is the quantum but the list was never updated.

SCSI hard drives...

Hi E4Kuser,

I have an E-Synth which had an internal IBM 2.1GB drive fitted (one of the 'standard' height hard drives).

I just purchased a 17.5GB IBM drive, which I was going to install internally, but it turned out to be a very tall (almost 2") drive, which draws heaps more current than the old drive (over 1.2 Amps for both the 5V and 12V lines - compared to 200 & 500 mAmps for the old drive!). So I'd say beware of the older, bigger drives, since they will fry your power supply if you try and fit them internally.

Another consideration is the type of connector on the drive. Most older SCSI drives have 50-pin connectors, which will plug into the internal 50-pin connector of the E-mu with a standard 50-pin cable.

Newer drives have either 68-pin or 80-pin connectors. So you'll also need to purchase an adaptor to use these drives internally - luckily they are pretty easy to get hold of...

Any of the Seagate or IBM drives have good reputations.

Cheers,

Mike.
