EOS upgrade problem

Hi,

I just bought a e6400 classic with 3.00b EOS. I am thinking of upgrading to 4.62 but the price seems a bit steep considering the price I paid for the sampler. But all I'd like to do is to be connected to an IDE hard disk or a bigger drive for quick access to sounds.

Another option would be to get the Chicken System internal ZIP drive cabling kit.

So my question is, does the Zip drive work with EOS 3.00b and if it does, would it be more practical to get the Zip kit than the 4.62 EOS? Does the EOS offer more tham the ability to use an IDE drive? Does it vastly improve the Emu performance?

Thanks.

The price of EOS4.62? I am confused; isn't that a free download? Before you upgrade the EOS, make sure you have enough Flash RAM in your machine. My E4K only has 1Mb so I can't go beyond EOS 3.00b.

Sorry for the confusion. I only have 1M of CPU flash RAM; price for a 2M flash is around $150 so it's kind of expensive comparing to the price of the unit I paid for.

So how do you feel about EOS 3.00b, is it good and stable and have enough features? Is it neccessary to upgrade to 4.6? Or is it worth the asking price?

Oops I am also mixed up my ASR and Emu, Chicken System makes Zip drive kit for ASR only.... I mean just installing an internal Zip drive.

Considering my E4K came with an even earlier version of the OS, I love EOS 3.00b! But then I have never tried anything else, nor do I really need to. Whether EOS3.00b has enough features really depends on what you're after and what other gear you use. The E4 does everything I need it to do and much more, and I also have two Akais.

Hi Gilles,

Thanks for the reply. So did you notice any midi timing problem which the new EOS is suppose to fix?

Regards,

Henry

I wouldn't know because I upgraded the E4K to 3.00b as soon as I got it. I am not experiencing any MIDI problems, except for the fact that the machine boots up in Omni mode every time and switches back to Omni every time I load a new bank/patch/sample from the HD.
