Would this work with an esi - 4000?

If so Navjot can you tell me a little more about the connections I'll have to make? I don't have a volt meter is there anyway you could post a diagram? I can't make out what lead go's where from your photo's too clearly :(

Many thanks, ni-cad.

Mine works fine - note Neotech who made my caddy/drive holder has no stock left.

The best option now is the addonics - but do NOT try SATA - go PATA.

For those with ESI's - nobody has tried this yet so you are the bleeding edge yourselves - you would need to use some kind of ACARD SCSI-IDS convertor too - not sure how that would fit into the unit. Good luck.

99% of the posts on this board are for the Classic or Ultra series - not ESIs....

big problems now
after four months of nicely working
my baby ditched me!
its not starting up, id given her everything lol

on a serious note, im actually quite upset, my platinum is not booting up, it gets to mounting scsi drives, and as soon as it goes to the ide drive, all the buttons light up, adn the screen goes blank,
id shit a chicken if i hadnt ate so many rich tea biscuits! (maybe too much info)

if anyone knows how to resolve this, (the emu not the constipation!)
please let me know dudes
thanks

Have you tried booting it with the removable drive caddy disconnected? Out of interest is it definitely the ide drive and not the floppy drive? Have you tried putting it back to its original configuration?

Just out of interest, do you know what may have caused the problem to arise? You didn't accidently pull the drive out without powering down or something like that did you? When I was trying to get my removeable caddy running I managed to pull it out with the sampler running and obviously it caused it to spaz out - my heart was in my mouth for moment while I rebooted and waited to see if it was still ok or not. Fortunately no harm was done, but it's easy to forget and just pull the drive out without powering down :(

oh i have a confession i was quite reckless with the harddrive the way i woulndt power down and just mount and it when i wanted it back on,
but that never effected it before
and i had been doing that for 4 motnths
i guess ive just been very lucky
:-S
the scusi thing at the startup is well slow and the hd goes funny
admittedly its working alittle bit now
but now and again
its only a matter of time,,,

Nav,

I recall during your installation and setup that you'd mucked around with the power connectors and originally had your drive on+12v when it should have been +5 v - so there's a possibility your power supply may have been damaged then and is now showing fault, and possibility the hard drive interface for the addonics part. I did see and noted before you were measuring voltages wrong so who knows what else might have been damaged.

Hard drives and power supplies aren't indestructible - so you may be seeing self induced damage now from your hasty "experiments"

My recommendation is to backup that drive on a PC and run diagnostics as a FAT32 drive on a PC to see whats up, then restore it. you should test your backup/restore process before you do anything however.

yeah definitely guys, i have a little theory (very little, may not even work)
the sampler flips out when the ide is being scanned at the start up,
im guessing it MAY have something to do with a small serge when the drive is being accessed, enough to freak the board out, but not harm the drive (not anytime soon anyway,)

the addionics case has a seperate power supply adapter to it, but its in a very aqward place when the drive is docked in the caddy, im going to try and build a seperate power supply n see if this does the trick if it is not anything else, if not i may have to go looking for emu spares, n all sorts, which will not be cool :-(

behold the amazing if temperamental emu platinum
its been working for the past week no probz, i opend it, done nothing but look at it and put the cover back on
ok while it is scanning for scusi devices, it is now doing that very slow (random)
but now when it (fianly) gets to the ide it mounts it fine

the only thing i could possibly think it could be is that teh power was surging, and coz of this the bord was freaking out
but now coz it slowly eases it in, my emu seems to like it

im pretty sure my emu is slowly going down the pan though, so although this isnt a perminant fix, atleast the thing is working

half success (in boratlike voice)

if it decides to F*** up again i will inspect futher...

u can try this solution:

If after doing a Panel Test (Master-Utils-Test-Panel) or something going wrong after some operations, you have no display on your LCD Panel the you will need to re-adjust the LCD's Contrast.

To adjust the display:

1. Press Master
2. Press F3 (Setup)
3. Press F3 (Misc)
4. Press F1 (Contrast)
5. Rotate the Data Wheel untill you are happy with the LCD's contrast

Otherwise u can do a reset:
For any version of EOS except version 3.0, press the following hard/soft keys:

* MASTER
* UTILS
* TESTS(1 3 5 8 is the Diagnostic password)
* MORE
* InitEE
* then press OK

For version 3.0, press the following hard/soft keys:

* MASTER
* UTILS
* InitEE
* then press OK

After you reinit the EEprom you need to recalibrate the controls (Master / Utils / Recal). The sampler will prompt you through the procedure.
