Sadly, the Emu can only read a single Master on the IDE bus apparently.

However, with a careful switch flipping exercise in theory you could do what these PC hackers do using the Cable Select but with a removable drive its pointless.

For those interested:

http://www.stefanv.com/electronics/ide_dual_boot.html

Smart versions of this don't power both drives at once - just the one thats needed - however, flipping drives mid stream would no doubt munge the data - the best approach would be a logic gate that only flipped drives after a power or reset cycle to avoid this problem. For the hardcore Emu Modder :-)

I thought that might be the case. Aside from it being a gadgety addon, the double drive thing wouldn't be needed so much with a 120gb drive. (or 137 in my case, all i could find for the internal IDE when I installed it was a 320GB drive ;))

Same here! I have been looking for the Icydock MB448MR-B, which is the ATA caddy that also has an USB connection. But it is only available in an online store that only ships to the US.

Maybe somebody in the US could help with a group buy. I am sure there are many of us interested.

hey guys i may have struck gold
for anyone in the uk
i am looking at http://www.addonics.com/products/combo_ ... usib25.asp

im ordering one
the team are really nice
and the company is quite small

the problem with the icy dock is that ther is a driver issue when trying to find it on a computer via usb<which is why they had to pull it from the market> (i have also read reviews stating that it looks like its going to fall appart)

but this product im looking at is ment to be the real deal
its not cheap concidering the other options (that dont seem to cut it or work)
i think its like ?60 with the usib lead (ide to usb)
(but to be honest concidering i payed ?1000 for an ultra platinum i dont care!)

ill keep you posted as to if it works

see ya Xxxx

Good find Navjot!

I have looked at the page, but I am not sure that I understand how this works. It looks like the drive enclosure would have a non-standard interface at the back, meaning that a special cable is needed to connect it to an external USB or Firewire computer interface. Hence the need to buy the "combo" that includes a special "Addonics USB2.0/1.1 interface cable" in addition to the cradle and the drive enclosure. Did I get it right?

Just a little akward, I would have much prefered a drive enclosure that has a USB port of its own. As it is, if you loose the special cable while the drive is in the e-mu, you are stuck.

But hey, it looks good anyway.

Cheers!

im hearing ya mate
you would need to buy the combo
and the only thing i can do is just keep hold of that usib to usb lead

icy dock make such a hdd but i was informed that it had to be pulled coz of the driver not loading to computer (it also has reviews slating its build, for something im going to be pulling eos drives in and out off i dont think its a good idea to get it)

which sucks ass

the only logical solution was the drive ive ordered,
im going to try it out
see how it goes
and hopefully i can come back with a definite yes or no for the uk lot
:-)

Another, but more expensive unit here also:

Holds two drives - Emu can only use one, but at least its another option. Seems like everyones buying these up for their Emus

yeah your too right

i think its the fact that i love the machine for being a fantastic peice of tech, its like my cornerstone (the ultra platinum)

its just the fact that i have to go low tech to try any sort of transfer,
wich seems to bother me the most,

esp as i have like 80gb worth of exs files dating back, which (dont get me wrong thru the enviroment i can still recreate sweeping filters, but its just not the same, and it takes too many transformers up in the env window!)

right this is starting to suck ass

i got the addonics jupiter rack and drive

i switched the power around

and fat 32'd the drive

the damn thing wont mount
once more when i try and connect it to my mac

the bloody thing wont recognise anymore

its no longer NAVDRIVE its just a 2TB drive (when it should be 120GB)

and osx wants me to initialise it

the last time osx done that was when the my crappy western digital my book broke, and 500GB worth of samples went down the khazi!

:-X
