Just wondering if I shoud use the +12 dB Output Boost under Master/Setup/Input-Output. And what is the best Headroom setting?
I now have it at the standard 3. The manual suggests output boost should only be used with transferring digital signal and setting the headroom to zero might produce clipping when to many notes are played.
How is this in practical use, what are generally the best settings to make the emu slam?

In my setup, it's way too quiet without the +12 setting. Not sure why.
I have headroom set to 0, but I also only have the volume turned up about halfway on the output. That avoids clipping. I'd rather use my mixer's amps than the internal one anyway - better sound quality.

It depends how many voices you are using at once. Potentially, you could be using 64 (or even 128?) voices, in which case you will need all the headroom you can get.
If you only use a few voices at a time, though, then you could use the output boost to get better levels.
By the way, does anyone know if the output boost works digitally on the samples, or on the outputs, i.e. will it boost the noise floor of the sampler?

A) I hope if you're using 64 or 128 voices you're using more than one output!
B) I noticed no noise increase when I did the +12.

I've never used more than around 40 voices in the sampler so I don't know what happens. However, the distortion is caused not by too many voices exceeding the maximum number of voices, but by too many voices driving up the output level until it distorts...
