hey i have recently aquired an emu ultra platinum

it only has a 20 gb HD ( :-S )
i have an akai with 80gb internal and want to switch it (as that forigen id thing dont work properly
the disk mounts but the emu cant read the akai banks)
i want to transfer all of my 70GB EXS samples ive had over the years
from MACBOOK (and a pc)
not sure the best way to do it

i also see there is confusion with these scsi to usb
i would love to know if there is anyone who has successfully done it?

also how do i control that RFX ringmodulator?

also also :-S is eos 7 the latest, im running eos 6.51 i think but i have heard (i may have heard wrong) that eos 7 sucks

sorry i know this post is all over the place but thanks for reading :-)

I can answer what i know about.

version 4.7 is the one i use.. its not crap.. it supports FAT file system which means you can have quiet large disks, and very easy support removable medias and such for moving samples between systems.

it also support realtime animation of resonanse controll (which i use a lot!)

there are also some more stuff.. which i cant answer about. Regarding problems there is some problems with the RFX-32 effect card (random outburst.. there should be some posts regarding this).. can anyone else verify that older software works better?

i havent played with the rfx ring modulator.. but with 4.7 you can controll the rfx effects with midi (isnt that correct?) so that is probably your solution here..

cheers dude

From what I recall, the realtime resonance control was a development thing that they forgot to turn off when they released the software - the downside is that it is not as hi-res as the non-realtime resonance. I know some people complain that it is not as good - I think it is down to personal preference.

Regarding the encoder issue - I know people who have done it and it worked great for them, however if you've got an E4 Platinum then just stick an ascii keyboard in the back - it's much quicker and easier than using the front panel.

regarding the res controll.. its high res enough. but reso is 255 numbers, and midi controller is 128 numbers.. so it get steps in 2. but by using 50% controll in the cord settings you will get at least 1 steps. regarding smoothness is it possible to make it smooth by using the lag in the chord..

This was posted on the old Emusiac list back in 2002 when 4.70 was first released:

sean wilhelmsen wrote:Yes, EOS 4.7 does allow for Real-time Resonance. Once believed a
hardware limitation to our filter chip, we wrote some pretty fancy code
that got around that issue. With that said, even though the results were
good, we did not believe they were good enough (resolution being the key
issue) and chose not to include this feature, well that's what we
thought. To, I hope, the benefit of you, we forgot to tun it off before
we released the new OS. The reason why we didn't announce this new
feature. Well enjoy, as an E4 Ultra user, I'm happy it's there.

thanks guys
