So i already know that Adaptec 2906 PCI is way to go and that this card is pretty compatible with many computers.

But at this point i have access to Adaptec AHA-2940.

The thing is that AHA-2940 is ultra wide SCSI. Not normal SCSI. So therefore cable jack on that ultra wide controller/card is a bit different then on normal Adaptec 2906. (you can find images at google).My question is can i use this ultra wide scsi card to function with my ultra e6400? If so then i just use cable with that ultra wide jack needed for controller and simple SCSI jack needed on back of my ultrae6400?

Is there some special cabling/connecting pins needed? I have a good person which will do this for me

p.s. i also have access to NCR GA-410 (chip 53C810) which is "normal" scsi. Anyone have success in using that card?

I don't know about the Adaptec card, but I have been using a Symbios 53C810-based card for many years without any problems.

Should be simply a matter of cabling - e.g. from High density ultra wide scsi to older Centronics style 50 pin connector.

For internal 68 pin ultra wide drives I've used short 68 pin UWScsi to 50 Pin adapters.

For external drives I'd recommend cables. Ebay, amazon have a ton. Be aware that making your own cables is a lot of work - very painfully small connectors for 68 pin headers and 68 wires is an awful lot to get right first time even with the best of patience.

I also used a Symbios Ultra SCSI-2 based card (Tekram Ultra SCSI-2 based on LSI Logic SYM53810 SCSI controller) when I used a PC - a 68 high density connector to a 25 Pin Mac style SCSI connector cable worked fine (I had PC->Zip 100->Emu so the last cable was a 25 pin Mac SCSI connector (the ones that look like a D25 printer port) an then on to the 50 Pin Centroncs SCSI-1 connector on the back of the Emu.

As always, Termination is utterly critical, and obey the warnings if you are using EOS 4.7 and FAT32 drives and you have both the PC and Sampler connecter to a single SCSI drive: you WILL lose data on either your PC or your Sampler. See www.emu.com support pages for 4.7 info.

Just to clear out, i have IDE HDD inside sampler. Is this some kind of problem since it is not SCSI HDD? Is it better to transfer content via SCSI port or should i remove hdd from sampler and connect it directly inside my pc to transfer samples? (i am familiar with connecting HDDs)?..

You have the best setup - no issues with conflicts or drive corruption over SCSI.

Using SCSI is very convenient if you have software like Recycle - I used to do it that way. Copying via the IDE drive itself is possible too, so you can do either. Having both is the best :)
