ESYNTH Fatal error

Oh man, am I dead in the water? I fired up my Esynth after about a month on the sidelines (being busy with life) and I see it got to 97% loaded to ROM when it just froze. I turned it off as I saw it was not loading and when i fired it up again, and it gave me a "fatal error, writing to ROM" message and will not boot up..... now it only gives me a blue screen... I am fearing the worst but am praying I am wrong.

Please don't tell me my Esynth is toast??? I tried searching for help but no lick. I am sure this has been asked before but can someone give me a hand here???

Could be any number if things:

1. Re-seat RAMS and ROMs when powered off to see if its any physical items are loose causing the problem.

2. Is your power supply working and delivering the right voltage to each component? If one part is gone - e.g. if the 12 V section has its output caps in bad shape - it happens from time to time - i.e. the caps are bulging out - then you may get 10.5V on the 12 V Rail or nothing and it won't boot properly.

3. Has anything else failed - e.g. hard drive - drawing more current than it should, causing a voltage drop to the mainboard showing the error ?

Best bet is to try disconnecting hard drive, floppy etc and see if it boots.

then try removing RAM, ROM, and see what the effect is, and put it back if it boots to isolate the offending part.

if its the power supply, you'll need to check voltages when its on, at load - beware of the risks here....

Ugh,

I haven't even moved the keyboard- seems to be firing up well until it gets to the loading and then the big fatal error.... I am truly bumming here.

Musher,

It's a keyboard, and am afraid to do anything fearing messing it up more which makes no sense as I can't use it in its present state. Any ideas???
