Hi all,

I have an Emu 5000 ultra with a 10g hdrive installed.

There has been so much discussion about Usb>scsi and CF readers and removable hdrives etc its all making my head swim!

Whats the most CONVENIENT way to get your samples into the emu?

barring the sampling in directly or using a old pc with pci scsi card or course!

Any suggestions would be most helpful.

It doesn't have to be an old pc for scsi - you can use PCMCIA scsi cards in most modern laptops and even on those with expresscard only you can get an adaptor.....
I know that's not much help if you haven't got a laptop but thought it worth mentioning. I got two PCMCIA cards for about ?10 each - happily sending samples to my Eysnth Ultra using SoundForge.

in case you don't have a spare PCMCIA slot there are USB to SCSI cables. I haven't tried one though.

i have a laptop and i use the PCMCIA slot for a firewire adapter, so i couldn't transfer directly via SCSI. i have tried using 2 zip drives, a USB one connected to the computer and a SCSI one connected to the Ultra. the process was painfully slow, noisy and annoying in general. then i tried the SCSI->IDE->CF combo. it kinda worked but not always and it wasn't very stable so i ditched that too.

now i use a SSD and an extended IDE cable that comes out of the Ultra. when i want to transfer samples i just disconnect the SSD (i read that you can't do that while the sampler is turned on but i haven't tried it) and connect it to a USB->IDE adapter that is connected to a USB port on my lappy. easy process, faster transfering / loading and completely silent.

so your hdrive doesn't reside IN your Emu?

Could you please explain this in more detail?


Then when you want to place some samples on your Hdrive you UNPLUG it and connect to your PC via the USB>IDE adapter (which model please).

Do you use Chicken Sys to place the samples on your Hdrive?


The idea of a pcmcia> scsi adapter seems pretty good.

However i dont have a clue about which model to buy!

any suggestions?

yes, that's what i do. the USB->IDE i use is a regular generic USB HDD or CD drive caddy.

no, i don't like that program. i just copy/paste the wave files in the disk and then load them in the Ultra.

EOS 4.7 allows IDE disks to be used, which are a microsoft format, requiring no translation of EOS files

usb > ide adapters are a dime a dozen and can be found almost anywhere. i wouldnt be caught without one, extremely useful gadgets.
