smoothing out samples...

this goes with the 'sstart cord set that allows you to emulate old timestretching algorythms... some of you guys may already know how to do this... if some of you guys don't know what i am talking about, look back to the first page of this forum and you should see the orginal post.

one thing i was never really happy about with this cord is often times you would get pops and clicks as the sample progressed through it's duration.
so it never really sounded all that well.

but i found this out last night as i was using this cord in a song that i am doing. my tempo is at 178, i was using notes that are 15 ticks in duration, 120 ticks per quarter note. and the duration of my event was over the duration of six measures. i was also using the modwheel cc for controlling the cord.

these are setting that worked for me, but may not be the definative, so i suggest looping the "timestretched" sample and adjusting these two settings until you get a sound that you want. the settings you want to adjust are in the amp envelope screen. it would be best to set ATK1 to a rate of 5, and a percentage of 100 of course, then you want to go down to RLS 1, and instead of keeping that default rate of 20, bump it up to about 50, don't ever go up to 127 on the rate... for a second there last night, i thought i got the unit stuck in a loop.

these are the two settings that allowed me to get rid of any artifacts, it worked for me at that particular speed with that particular resolution in notes. however, different situations may cause for different rate settings.

i even speed up the song to 356 bpm to hear out it sounded, and the sample sounded more like how the emu timestretches....

oh and one more thing before i go, take your cc, and instead of going from zero to 127, start out at 127, and go to zero, it will actualy reverse the sample with out reversing it.

that is wierd.

178 is WAY TOO FAST !!!

Come one guys bring it down, u can pitch it up later on the dex

174 feels almost perfect 170 is a tad slow anything higher than 174 is too fast we dont want drum n bass to turn into happy hardcore or gabberhouse. :slayer:

it's funny tho, most people pitch up tunes cause they are used to hearing them at 180 or so in mixes. 8-)

nice tutorial s&h, I'll be sure to try this.

yeah, i pretty much mix at 178 or 180, so that is why i make music at that speed i guess. even the old stuff, like rock the funky beat, instantly pitched up to 6 or 7 percent. i think i do this because i don't want any of the songs to be slower then it's original pitch. i hate listening to a song when it is slower then normal. i guess i am wierd that way.
