Hardware repairs - help needed please!

I've got an old E5000 Ultra hardware sampler that needs some minor repairs (it has a loose jog wheel that now skips through data too quickly & some function buttons are 'sticking' when pressed - it makes for very laborious editing!) I've had a look at the Emu website (http://www.emu.com), but the website indicates that repairs are only available in America. The link that is supposed to list authorised repair centres in Europe and Asia only provides a further link to EPR Electronics who are based in Tampa, Florida. There's no listing for Emu in UK telephone directory enquiries, and the website doesn't have any contact details for the UK or Europe. I've emailed the US tech-support but haven't had a reply yet.

Does anybody know where you can get Emu hardware repaired in the UK - is it even possible?

Given the value of the E5000, shipping to the US for repairs is not an option.

I like my E5000; I guess if I can't get it repaired I'll have to buy another one second hand when it finally dies.

Also is it possible to use a USB Zip drive with an E5000 via a SCSI to USB converter? Has anybody successfully tried this? My SCSI Zip is dying and a mate has a couple of USB Zips going spare - or will I have to buy a 2nd hand SCSI Zip?

Thanks for your help.

You could try the Yahoo Emax list here: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/emax/

One of the forum members (Jammie, based in the Midlands, I think) undertakes Emax repairs so he may be able to help.

I was browsing this board last night and found something about some UK repair shops for Emu, so be sure to do some searching here to see. If I find it again, I'll post it here. Good luck!

...after searching a little I found this; not really all that helpful, but better than nothing:
  • ""UK repair man i can find in warrington a place called "proline audio" (viewtopic-f=2&t=974.php.html)

Hi, such repairs I do to my Emulators myself... The function buttons need some cleaning and the rotary data encoder perhaps needs replacing (It could be ordered new at EPR for some 15 USD, I think). To change the data encoder requires some soldering, but any little skilled technician can do it. Really, nothing serious. No need to send it to service center and pay prohibited sums.Tell me, if you want some further notes how to do it.

I replaced the backlight on my E5000 by myself which required a solder, which I had never done before.

Look on ebay. There are often external SCSI zip-drives fore sales.
