Does anyone have success using a keyboard in a chain with a box like a kenton control or Peavy 1600, into their computer, then onto Emu , im not.

i use an oxygen 8 and have been automating stuff on in the emu through cubase for the last few days. i dont know how to set the midi cc# on the oxygen but i can set a knob in cubase to send data on a certain cc# to corespond to midiA in the emu.

but anyway, its ok, dont really like the oxygen but it has knobs. i guess its just as easy to draw in automation in sx but i like the feel of the knobs better.

To set the MIDI CC# on the oxygen:

Hit MIDI/Select
Hit Set CTRL.
You'll see an 'n' This means which knob 'n'umber, so using the nubmer keys, enter whichever knob you want to assign.
Hit Enter.
You'll see a 'P'. This stands for Parameter. Enter the desired CC# you want that knob to send. So, for cc#21, hit the 2, then the 1.
Hit Enter.
You'll see a 'C'. This stands for channel, enter the desired channel number using the number keys. I don't know about Cubase, but you can just always use 1 for Logic.
Hit Enter again, then MIDI/Select.

Repeat for all knobs.

I've constructed a cool little Logic environment layer that consists of a bunch of transformers that transform cc#s. So, I have the oxygen's knobs just assigned to CCs 1-8, then use the transformers to transform (duh) those ccs into the ccs I want. For the Emu, it's cc1 becomes cc21, cc2 becomes cc22, etc, for different modes on my microQ, it's 69, 70, etc. That way, I never have to reassign knobs on my oxygen. If anybody wants it, I can send it to you, along with better instructions on it's use.

ra coon, the chain method is just you plug one MIDI device's out into the in of another, making sure thru is on on that device, and plugging the thru into the in of another device. Then you can send from the first device to the 3rd device. Is that what you're asking?

Yeh but still doesnt seem to transmit from both pieces at the same time .Korg just brought out a new kb controller with knobs and sliders and a set of pads , the only trouble is , its one of those mini keyboards, my fingers always hit two keys at once. And check out that mpc1000 , saves to flash though , which are kinda pricey if i remember.

Maybe the midi merge box is what you need? Not sure though

I use a Kenton Control Freak Studio Edition (16 Faders) to control my e6400. The Control Freak is extremely versatile as you can program multiple tasks per slider, the max I've used so far is for it to control 8 different CC's on 8 different midi channels just on one slider!!! I favour sliders over knobs as with a bit of ractice you can use 10 sliders at once although I'm tempted to get the knob version of the Kenton too.

My master keyboard plugs into into the Control Freak and the outputs are midi merged using the Kentons soft thru setting. This then inputs into my hardware or software sequencer (depends on the job that needs doing) and then into a thru box to my emu and other gear.
