What method do you use to save samples?

I'm trying to hook up a system to save my work on my e5000 and since everyone I know has gone down the softsampler route it's difficult to gauge what the easiest/most common set up is. I assume everyone has gravitaded beyond using floppy disk  . Also i'd like to give a shout out to the shmuck who sold me a duff scsi zip drive over ebay. "It worked fine when I sent it" - C*ocksucker :finger: .

If you have a PC or a MAC get a SCSI card. Do most of your editing on your computer 'cause you'll find that most of the editing applications in the E5000 suck dick. When you're done editing, SCSI it over to the EMU. But wait a minute. If you have a new E5000 you probably don't have a hard drive. Instead of using a Zip drive just save yourself a headache and get a hard drive(IDE). I put a 20 gig Maxtor in mine and it works fine. Don't get Quantums, they don't work. Voltage is too high. Maxtor is cheap, go to Best Buy and get one. Easy to install. And don't get a hard drive "mounting kit" from EMU. It's bullshit. It's just some screws, an IDE cable and some brackets. You can get that stuff anywhere and not pay $30 for it. Once you get a harddrive in your EMU then you can do the SCSI in the PC/MAC thingy. And just in case you were wondering, there isn't anyway to save EMU sound banks to a computer. You can zip individual files back and forth, and you can dump banks from PC to EMU, but you can't dump EMU files to PC. Hope this helps. Okaycoolamericanstyle100%chief.

If you don't get the mounting kit you need to make sure you know what you're doing with the power lead otherwise you may blow your sampler.

But yeah IDE drive is the cheapest and for me most effective.

cool cool.cheers guys. I don't know why I never considered IDE before. I got blind sided by SCSI hard drives and was bieng put off by the ?150+ price tag hence the zip drive. However one thing that does bother me about getting a hard drive is is I have no idea what the file management system is like. e.g is it possible to delete unwanted banks . i don't want to end up with hard disk that is 90% full of mistakes and experiments and 10% usable stuff.... I apologise for my lack of knowledge . I'm not usualy so technologicaly retarded. Thanks

If you have either an IDE or SCSI HD installed in your E-mu you can definitely delete unwanted banks. The EOS file system is a bit limited in the fact that quite a lot of disk space gets wasted when storing banks in comparison to FAT. You can only format HD's with the FAT file system if you have EOS v4.7 installed. Otherwise you will have to format the disk as EOS. I beleive EOS does have an upper limit to the size of the drive that can be installed. I think other posts might address this issue. If I remember correctly it is about 18 gigs or so.
