Ultra power supply question

okay, this one is for those who have seen the innards of their Ultra. i recently found out that some Ultras have different displays than others. mine (e5000) has a yellowish colored backlight, while some e6400s i've seen pictures of online have a blueish backlight. i was wondering if they use the same screen with a different backlight or a different display altogether.
more precisely, i'm interested in the voltage the display requires. in my e5000 the display wants -12V, which hard to find in small PSUs produced nowadays (only full-blown PC PSUs have it). now, i've been meaning to make my Ultra a little more portable. basically, i would like to turn it into something that looks like a command station. for this, i'd like to ditch the default PSU and use one of those tiny carPC PSUs. sure, there are ways to turn +12V, which is easier to find, to -12V, but that requires soldering my own circuit...
anyways, i hope someone might know something about this.
btw, another alternative would be to change the display with a newer, backwards-compatible model, if such a thing exists. i remember i looked into it a couple of years back, but i don't remember finding anything.
