VEnvRls weirdness?

For the intro of a song I'm working on, I want to have single bass stabs come in every 8 bars, with a long release on the Amp Envelope so they slowly taper off. But, once the song gets rolling, I need to have the Amp release be much shorter, so my bassline doesn't step all over itself in the release phase.

My plan was to use this cord config:

MidiA -> VEnvRls -> +100%

and have Logic send a high MIDI A value in the intro, then send a lower value after the drop, when I need my bass hits to be short and sweet. The actual value for Amp Env Release in Voice Edit is 18.

BUT, this isn't working. Different MIDI A values have NO effect on the release of the envelope.

So, have I somehow cabled this wrong in Cords, or what?

try modw -> venvrls -> +(or -)100% (or whatever % ... 100 is prolly too much

you can get the same effect by holding the note down and changing the decay too

or you can simply make another voice a couple of octaves away that is exactly the same and then change the release on that

just draw the notes in the key editor shorter - compared to the ones in your intro.....I usually loop a bar and increase/reduce the length of each note until the bass stops overlapping due to the release setting

I'll give ModWhl a try today, thanks.

I usually go with one of you guys' ideas - draw in longer notes, or create a new voice a couple of octaves up the keyboard - but wanted to try the MIDI/VEnvRls thing out for kicks. Ah well, it was just gonna make more work for me anyway :cry: :spliff:

well if it works then you have something that will make things go faster for you.

i have found the 'sstart destination to be very useful. for example, i will often times hook midi a with the 'sstart and use that to bounce around a vocal sample so i don't have to spend hours cutting the damn thing up. cutting up vocals terrorifies me.

so on the sample "cut the midrange, drop the bass" i will find at what value will play what word. works really well so far.

so anything you can get the emu to do that will save time, and cpu power on your computer is well worth it. i think.
