Loading CD presets from PC to the Sampler

Hi guys,

the problem: I have an E4X EOS 3.00b, a PC with a SCSI adapter, CDExtract, SoundForge and a lot of EMU Cds. BUT I have not SCSI CD-drive, so I cannot load full CD's content to my sampler directly. However I am able to load only samples but not presets/banks via SMDI using all those equipment and software. My actual workflow looks as follows: I get an access to CD's content through the CDExtract, then I choose a preset and try to save it as sf2 file to PC's HDD. Then I transfer this sf2 file by SoundForge from PC's HDD to the sampler. But in the sampler I can see only one sample transferred without a preset data, without zone mapping etc. Moreover, if a preset contained few samples, all of them I get in that one sample as the chop sequence.

So, please kindly advise if there is any chance to load presets using my current setup, if yes, what workflow you would recommend?

Cheers

OH MAN!
You have made a lot of work for yourself.
Please invest in a scsi cd-rom. For a small investment of say £25 you will be able to load banks with loop points, filter settings, amp settings etc in just a few seconds (instead of hours).
If you don,t want to pay £60-£80 for a scsi drive you could make your own more cheaply with one of these from ebay

Single 5¼'' CD/Disk Enclosures, SCSI / General use New
price £10.99 & £5.50 - Economy Delivery

Then slot a internal scsi cd-rom into it,(make sure that is 50pin)
Here,s one that is currently £5.50 & £5.90 - Standard Delivery with 1 day to go.

Just make sure the drive is 50pin type 1 or 2 scsi (someone help me out I think these types are fine, yes?)
This is an easy way to save a small wedge.

Hi JAHFUNK

thanks for a such detailed answer. I have been keeping SCSI CDDrive option in mind but I supposed there is a way to do something using my currrent setup.

Anyway, I still need an answer what file format could be used to send from PC to the sampler which could contain all the preset information , mapping etc. Is this possible or not? As far as I understood sf2 is the wrong format. What else?

Thanks in advance

There's no way to achieve this, you need the SCSI CD-drive, straightforward.

Thanks, got to buy this then. But what is the native file format of Emu banks and presets?

Emu saves and loads banks in its own format with a file name as follows ... example.E4B
It can also save the banks as E111
Single samples can be saved as .wav or .AIFF

It will happily read all the other file formats listed below
.wav (PC) upto 48kHz stereo
.AIFF (Mac) upto 48kHz stereo
Ensoniq cd-roms
Akai cd-roms
Roland cd-roms

NOTE the .wav and .AIFF files will need to be imported either via scsi, smidi, floppy disc, zip disc or hard drive as these files will not be recognized straight from an audio or data cd (shame).
