Yes, you MUST use a PCMCIA adapter. LUN0 is the only ID that the Emu can read and write to apparently. I considered trying to mod the PCD-50b to see if I could change the ID number but, I think it would require some firmware hacking to flash the software of the device to allow this. Something I am not comfortable doing.

I called SCM in Munich and asked for modification of the firmware so that LUN0 is assigned to the Compact Flash Slot.
I have been told that the cardreader is out of production for a few years now and there won't be any further updates.

One very important info for the PCD-50B users:
This cardreader is capable of hot plugging. This means that you can drag the PCMCIA-adapter out and plug it it again without having to switch OFF the device.
Please don't mix-up "PCMCIA-adapter" with "Compact Flash card that is plugged in the PCMCIA-adapter". You only can plug the PCMCIA-adapter out of the slot. After that you can remove the CF card from the PCMCIA adapter. If you drag the CF card out of the PCMCIA adapter while the PCMCIA adapter is still in the Slot of the PCB-50B you will damage the CF card and PCMCIA adapter.
