Hi,

How do install RAM SIMMS in there? I can't see a place for "upgrades". Do I really have to remove the hole back panel?

Thanks

The procedure goes like that, remove power cord:

1. Remove the side end caps (3 screws each side, watch out (for re-assembly) as there is 1 short, 2 long screws)

2. Remove the Display bezel. Lift the right edge of the bezel slightly with your fingernail, then slide the entire bezel assembly to the right. It should easily pop out.

3.Remove the two screws on either side the bezel and set them aside.

4. Remove the 3 screws on each side of the control panel (i.e. located on the side of the keyboard where the end caps were,on the very top)

5. Lift the control panel: Lift the metal top FROM THE FRONT and lift off panel assembly with cables still attached. Tilt the panel back and prop it up using the slot in the top of the metal extrusion. This slot holds the control panel propped up like an automobile hood (Do this with most care, as there's the chance you could break/bend the plastic front-panel).

6. Now you have access to the SIMMS SLOTS from above.

7. Ground yourself by touching a grounded object.

8. Remove old Memory Simms (if necessary).

9. Install new Simms, refer to the EOS manual, especially if your not going to 128 MB.
While applying a slight downward pressure on the top of the SIMM to keep it from popping out of the socket, tilt the SIMM board into a vertical position. You should hear an audible click. Make sure both sides of the plastic tabs have latched.

10. Reassemble the unit. Lift the control panel out of the slot and slide the rear edge back into the horizontal slot in the rear extrusion (take care !)

11. Replace all the control/display panel/end cap screws. Done.

12. If all went right, it should display actual ram during booting procedure, or you can check via MASTER menu.
If there's a problem then most likely the SIMMS are not sitting right in their slot, do it again 8-)

Ok... So much simpler in my ESynth rack!

I figured it had to be complicated. So, besides the details how, we don't remove the back panel, we open the top one.

I just got this machine, it's a Turbo model brand new, no shit. The same guy sold me this and a Korg Wavestation he bought new, and never used them. Original, not even a little dust. BUT, the E4K as only 16mb... So, I'm stealing the 128 I have in my ESYnth rack, to put them in the E4K. Then I'll order 128mb on ebay, but my needs right now is the keyboard.

I'm not a newbie in the field, but it's so new, I didn't want to take a chance to break something. And buy is this machine heavy...

Thanks a lot!
It's really appreciated.

Francis

This is handy, as I'm also trying to find SIMMs for my E-synth keyboard!
Does anyone know if the RAM SIMMs are still available, or can you use generic SIMMs by any chance?
I currently have only 16MB in mine, and it does seem a bit skimpy.

All advice gratefully and graciously received. :-}

Many thanks for those links, you Rascal, you! (Obscure old song allusion, there. A Blue Peter badge for anyone who gets it.)
For some reason I didn't get a reply notif. (yes, I ticked t'box), whence my tardy reply. :-)

A Happy New Year to all EMUers, whatever Phatt planet you're on!

I think this is a better buy at £21
EMU Protozoa FORMULA 4000 SAMPLER SOUND LIBRARY CD E-MU ULTRA
Link http://www.ebay.com/itm/EMU-Protozoa-FORMULA-4000-SAMPLER-SOUND-LIBRARY-CD-E-MU-ULTRA-/220935432269?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Pro_Audio_Samplers_Accessories_CV&hash=item3370c7284d

You get all the presets of the E-MU Proteus 1,2,3 plus E-MU Orbit/Phatt ROMs all on one cd rom
Many have controller settings for env, filter etc. I have it and rate it as a good product.

Aah, I was thinking more for people who want to replace / reinstall their 256 E-synth presets, but maybe I'm thinking of another thread. :???:
I was also thinking that if I sell my E-synth keys, I'd still have access to some of the cool pads in that set.
I assume the E-synth 256 presets are not available elsewhere : I've had a good scan through my E5000 library (all 20 CDs), and couldn't see any of the more exotically named E-synth sounds there.

As you have the real McCoy, I believe you can save the data to a zip disc yourself , and then load it into your sampler.
Seems the best option
It would be great for all the forum members if you were to post the data here, I'm sure that many members would be eternally greatful

Whoops! Mea bleeding culpa, wot wot! I was looking at old, old threads about the E-synth.
Carry on, as you were...

Oh, I was under the impression, garnered from those old threads I read, and obviously misunderstood, that you couldn't do that. But I guess Viper's managed it. ;)

It's a funny old beast, this E-synth : I sold my EMAX II kbd a couple of years ago, and realised that I'd lost a damn good friend , so buying the E-synth was an attempt to get back to that, but I find the keys themselves horrible to play. The keys actually look as if the edges have been rounded off, so that I keep playing bum notes, or more bum notes than usual.

Also, I didn't realise the internal DD port was SCSI, and strangely, it doesn't explicitly say that it's a SCSI port in the manual.

I wonder what other owners think of the E-synth keys? How does it compare with the E4K, for example?
I also wonder why EMU downgraded the arpeg. on successors to the EMAX: both the E5000 and the E-synth have inferior versions. :???:

I still have my E4k (bought new), was barely used, back then I went "oh, that keyboard is excellent", I still would say that for the white keys, with black keys involved I'd like to agree today with what you were writing about them being rounded, somehow it's not great playing, fingers slipping away, if that's the right term. E4k is actually the same, were the E-Synth had its Synth-Rom the E4k had a HD instead, plus E-Synth has enough Flash-Ram on board to run 4.62 without the soldering-job, so mine still runs on 3.0b. Oh, IMHO E4k definitely looks better then E-Synth Keyboard. ;) Wouldn't mind having a EIV XT Ultra Keyboard with 16 balanced outputs, well... it's over.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant, the black keys! The tops of the black keys also have a textured, matt finish, almost as if to compensate for the roundness. I wonder if EMU were experimenting with key designs?

What about the EMAX ARP? Does anyone else have fond memories of going mad with that thing? RANDOM + REPEAT NOTE + several octaves of range, then LATCH yourself into abstract lunacy!
I have a (much more modern) Fusion 6HD, and its ARP doesn't even have Random! I'm still looking for a synth with an ARP to match old Mother Emax...

If I can upload the file here, and if you can walk me through it, then I guess that's not a problem, though I am slightly worried about copyright issues.
