ESI-32 digtial out distortion

I recently upgraded my esi-32 from version 2 to 3.02. I haven't used the esi much these days, but was excited to used it again with the new eproms I bought on ebay. I have the digital I/O and scsi options installed with 32mbs of ram.

After I installed the new eproms, the digital I/O has become distorted and I can't find anyway to fix it. I've tried a few cables and the same distortion. Playing with Master/Special/Main Output format didn't fix the problem. Also setting the receiving sync to spdif on a motu 828mk3 and Detla 2496 and both had the same distortion. Maybe I zapped the board with static electricity when installing the eproms. I also put the scsi ribbon cable on backwards the after installing the eproms. That resulted with a blue screen and the esi not booting. When the esi boots, it shows the scsi and digital I/O are there with the check mark. SCSI works fine.

I am bummed about this, because I've had this esi-32 since 1995 and I'm kinda sentimental. Does anyone have an idea about a possible fix?

Try resetting digital IO

Make sure the OS 3.02 headroom boost functions aren't enabled (from what I remember of mine)

I had a similar problem on an esi4000, after swapping everthing twice over and finally giving up I discovered accidently that it was the ram sticks, in my case I could hear the distortion on all the outputs, try messing with the ram to get results.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried resetting the digital I/O with the special diagnostic, but that didn't fix it. I also tried installing the old 8mb of ram I had and that didn't work either.

I also noticed audition button works for the first few samples and then stops working. Also when auditioning the samples like this, I noticed they are playing back at the wrong pitch.

Digital in works good, just not the out. I guess I'll be looking for another esi or maybe an e4 on ebay.
