do frequency and res respond to midi cc?

Hi, I just read on http://www.tweakheadz.com/midi_controllers.htm that many synths use midi CC 74 to control the filter frequency. I'm trying to set up a midi controller and I'm wondering if anyone knows whether the eos responds to a particular message. I'm aware that I can map MidiA to frequency via a cord, what I'd like to do is use the emu's native frequency channel if possible thus free up one of the MidiA-L's for something else. Ideally similar info for resonance, chorus, reverb etc. I was excited by the heading "midi implementation chart" in the eos manual but it turned out to be pretty wimpy. Do any of you have this sort of information?

I think you talking about the Roland General Midi GM/GX Standarts for CC ( Maps ).

You don't need to use the CC numbers stated in the Tweakheads article.

There are some limitations in EOS in regards to the setup of MIDI A-L.
For MIDI A-H only the first 33 CC numbers (#01 - #33) can be assigned while for MIDI I-L CC numbers from #00 to #95 are available.
For the Switches 1-3 CC numbers #64-#97 can be used.

You can use MIDI Translator from http://www.bome.com to use a CC# that EOS initially cannot handle or for re-routing or for creating SysEx-messages out of CC-messages. But therefore you have to use a MAC or PC and configure MIDI Translator as required.

The MIDI-based controllers you can use in EOS as modulation source are:
- Key+, Key~ (MIDI note)
- Velocity+, Velocity~, Velocity<
- Mod Wheel (CC#01)
- Pedal (CC#03)
- MIDI Volume (CC#07)
- MIDI Pan (CC#10)
- Pitch Wheel (CC#32)
- Pressure (CC#33), also called Aftertouch or Channel Pressure
- MIDI A-H (CC#00-CC#33, including Pitch Wheel and Pressure)
- MIDI I-L (CC#00-CC#95)
- Foot Switches 1-3 (CC#64-CC#97)

okay, so you're saying that frequency and res *don't* respond directly to midi cc, and that I have to set up a cord and a mod source to in order to control them.

Exactly.
Take a look at the architecture of a preset. You will see that you can setup more than 128 Voices for building a sound. You have to configure the cords for each voice.
In most cases it would be unwanted that a CC message changes all voices of a preset in the same manner.

can you make a cord for all voices in a preset ? i just want a mini controller for attack and decay on some drum sounds spread across the keyboard

You can't setup "just one cord" for all voices in a preset but you can select all voices in a preset and setup the same cord for all (selected) voices with the same settings.
This sounds similar but it's not the same.
When selecting all voices of an existing preset at once where all voices have been already configured individually before, you would overwrite some settings which may cause an unwanted result.
For example:
You suddenly will miss a LFO-modulation on one of the voices as the cord you modified for ALL voices at once was used by an other voice for this LFO-modulation.

For selecting ALL voices in a preset press PRESET EDIT - GLOBAL - EDIT ALL and modify them in the same manner.
In the upper right corner of the LC-Display you will see the number of voices selected and the covered key range.
