Controlling E4 parameters from a controller

Is this possible? I'm talking more about the programming side of things. I'd at least like to use knobs to control the amp and filter attack and release.

you can use MIDI A-H as a source to modify any available destination in the patch chords section.
you can set what midi CC MIDI A-H are assigned to in the Master Menu (pg2 of midi controllers)
then you just set whatever your midi controllers knobs are assigned to to be the same as what you've assigned midi A-H on the EMU to.
this is also all in the EOS 4 manual

have fun

As far as I understand do you want to change preset settings by a controller like a hardware programmer (e.g. the Access programmers for Matrix 1000 or Microwave).
Therefore you need to translate a MIDI-CC controller to SysEx data where the CC# is changing a specific value in the SysEx data field.
I think this can be realized with CTRLR (http://www.ctrlr.org) but is a lot of work.

I tried a direct programming more than 10 years ago via a Yamaha 03D mixing console where you can set up complete SysEx command lines and change just one value in the data field via the respective fader. The issue was that you can just change a single parameter in a specified voice of a specified preset.
It would have been necessary to assign more than one fader to the data field and change different values before sending it to the EMU, e.g. for telling the E4 that instead of the Filter Cutoff in Preset 001, Voice 4 now the Filter Cutoff in Preset 148, Voice 1 should be modified by the SysEx command line.

hmm perhaps i misunderstood. i wonder though, why you would do that in such a round about way?
i just save a blank default patch to have midi a-l automatically set to amp ADSR, filter ADSR, filter freq, filter q, lfo1 speed & lfo1 depth.. that way you just drop a sample into the preset and it's all assigned and ready for knob tweaking

it would be nice to change all this via sysex but how could you possibly remeber what knob/value is assigned to what with so many sources & destinations?

@Override:
Tweaking is just a temporary solution. The question was about programming.
Tweaking would work if there was some kind of "freeze"-, "burn"- or "store"-function for taking over the values into the preset.

All you need are devices for creating CC-messages.
I have a Virus b, PX7, X-Board 49 and Maschine for creating CC-messages but still need an application for translation to SysEx.

oh, i wasn't seeing the distinction between the two. i checked out the CTRLR site and it looks quite promising. There was a post mentioning someone was in the process of trying to make an EMU/EOS panel.

But can every preset be controlled ( UF6 to E6400 4.6v ) in real time without going into each preset to reset CCs ?

That would be me.

I upped my initial "research" panel as a demo of the functionality @ ctrlr.org/forums/topic/emu-e4-functionality-demo/.

I dubbed this one "butt-ugly" for reasons that are revealed upon opening the panel.

A much better panel is in the making, but because i have to code everything in lua instead of using the "standard" approach it will take a while to finish, but it will kick ass once i get there.

Feel free to toy around with the one posted @ above linkage, and if you encounter weird stuff / bugs or have questions, please consider posting then @ the thread there.

have fun,

Hec

Hey Hecticc,

I would like to thank you, coming from myself and I'm sure a lot of other people on here who would like to see a nice GUI for EMU.
I hope this sees the light of day! Been long time waiting!

In this version the gui sucks donkeyballs, but a much better version is in the making and will update once the basics are inthere.

In the mean time, have fun!

We are looking forward to a hardware interface with modular style patchable cords eventually, right?

Yup.

Cords (source/dest/amount)
filters
Envelopes
chorus
transpose
voice/samplezone root/range settings
...
All controllable from the plugin

I WANT ONE!!!
I would def pay for this development
It would be great if it could be ported to an iPad, then the touch screen could be used along with the wireless midi capability of this device
You would then have a cable free touchscreen remote for tweaking and editing the E-mu, that would be like a dream come true.

I would even buy this pale imitation of an iPad
and live with the bugs and crashes to get these features
