Transposition Question ?? (Ultra 4XT)

Hi folks,

i am having massive problems with applying the TRANSPOSITION function to a Preset.

What i would like to do is TRANSPOSE a particular Preset (up/down one octave). Because Course Tuning causes changes in the timbre, i use the Transpose facility because it only changes the key.

So, using the Preset in question (if i go to Preset Edit and call up the VOICES MAIN screen) i can see that this Preset has 14 x Voices and they are all in Group #1. No problem

Now, i click on Group 1 and select (F6) EDIT GROUP and then TUNING to get me to the VOICE TUNING screen.

This is the problem right here : -

When i alter the TRANSPOSE value, each time it moves a semitone gradually more and more Voices of the Preset disappear (so i have odd blank keys across the keyboard). And by the time it has been Transposed a whole octave, every key is empty (ie. no sound !!!) ?? So when Transposing a semitone a couple of notes become silent, then another semitone a couple more notes dissappear and so on..........

This happens on some Presets and not others.

Thanks very much i it would be great if someone can help please.

Best,

Paul

Use xpose

Hi,

i used the Xpose function on the Voices Main page (in Preset Edit). And individually changed each Voice (there are 14 x Voices in total) from value zero to minus 12 (so all Voices down one octave). But the same thing happens whereas 90% of the notes become silent !! ?? Then when i move all the values back to zero all the Voices re-sound again as per normal.

While in Preset Edit ensure all voices are COMBINED into the same group. eg G1
Then just xpose G1,
THEY SHOULD ALL SHIFT AS ONE GROUP

Thanks a lot, i think that might have solved the problem. i had not COMBINED the voices before making the TRANSPOSITION. i tried it quickly on a couple of Presets and it seemed to work, but i will test the procedure in more detail tomorrow.

How did the testing go?

You mentioned transpose (not Xpose) in your last reply.
I would always use Xpose as it maintains a better keymap to sample pitch ratio.

Try this
01. Load a single preset (make sure it is combined)
02. Copy preset to an empty slot
03. Transpose the original down by 12 semitones
04. Xpose the copy by the same

Compare the banks
The exposed one will be an octave lower but keep its sample replay speeds intact
The transposed one will playback the samples at half speed

So transpose and Xpose are quite different!
This shit matters

Works a treat thanks. Expose is much better in this instance than Transpose. To my ears, it reatains the full identity of the sample, whereas Transpose affects it.
