upgrade to 4.61 still work or do I need a new one?

Yes
If you want FAT format to exchange samples presets & banks to/from a computer with ease.
Real time control of Rez

If you're running 4.61 I don't think you need to use flash prep again.

Have just bought a USB Zip drive on eBay, hoping to use for sample transfer from PC. Is this not possible with 4.61?

I assume you have the USB zip drive for the PC and a SCSI zip drive hooked up to the sampler?
Insert a new disc into the samplers zip drive.
Browse to see the connected disc drives, you should see the zip drive.
Select it. Hit utilities (F1) press format (F3)
At this point does the screen give you the option to format in either EOS / FAT or only EOS??
If the FAT option is not present then your OS needs updating if you wish to exchange files with a PC, this is because EOS is an unrecognizable format to a PC so it can't read or write to it. ;)

Yes I have SCSI Zip drive on sampler. Will look tomorrow to see if I have the option to FAT format. Thanks for your help.

When I go to format it says 'this will erase data on disk, continue?'. I don't want to go further than that in case it starts formatting and I don't have a blank disk atm. I guess I need to upgrade to 4.7.

Er, on the other hand, my emu does recognise PC floppies so maybe it is ok with FAT.

So it has no format choice, it's disc managment is predefined to only EOS format media.
Yes this confirms that the only OS to support hard drives formatted in FAT is EOS4.7.

Also if you upgrade you are able to fit a near silent 120GB laptop IDE harddrive formatted in FAT.
Now that's some onboard storage!
The update will take about a minute.
If you want you can make a floppy backup of the old EOS befor you update just incase you want to roll back later.
( although I can't see why you would ever want to)
