Couple questions

1) how does the E4X differ from say a E4XT Ultra. well basically what does the ULTRA mean? i have a EMU5000 ultra and a E4X w/ the midi option card and 128mb of ram... which one should i get rid of? i mean does the "ultra" matter? lol sounds madd noobish :P its just somthing i need to clarify.

also

on the E4X i want to upgrade to 4.61 i currently have 4.10 in there now and i tried to put the flash on a floppy and the 4.61 on another floppy but for some reason they wont fit?

The Ultra models are faster models.

Meaning they have a faster processor and therefore can utilize some of the functionalities in the EOS 4 (or is it 3) and upward like beat munching and so on.

Also it enables the user to use some of the Ultra only cards that just will not work on a 'regular' EOS sampler.

Other than that I don't know;

wot i wanna know is if u detected ANY difference in sound between the two? Have u sampled a bass from a synth in to E4X an then the same into the E5k Ultra then played them back? Does the bass sound different in some way when its played out of each machine?

Im told the Ultra's sound cleaner an have a hotter output, where as the non ultras sounded more analog an a bit more gritty.

If u haven't done any listening tests and u have some spare time id love to hear your thoughts after some testing and experimenting.

I have very recently acquired both an e4x and an e5000 ultra. they sound the same to me, though the ultra supposably has a different (faster) processor.

Sonically they're the same.

An Ultra gives you word-clock in if you're syncing on an ADAT card, it also gives you better MIDI timing with dense sequences, and Beat Munging (better on a computer anyway).

Oh and an Ultra will burn a flash for a Proteus 2K family ROMpler if that's your bag..

Other than that there's not much in it..

that's exactly how I ended up with an e4x (newbie mistake- misread or misinterpreted something on the emulator archive site about os's & hardware capabilities).
now I have the 5k ultra & three of these flash rom things to burn & load into my pk6 & p2k. guess what I'm doing this evening?
