What do you guys use as a midi-interface to trigger your Emulator ?
Which one is the tightest ? Serial/Print port versus USB/Firewire ?

Any suggestions ?

I have a usb midisport 2x2 and a 4x4. jacked it into the usb port, loaded the drivers, never ever had any kind of problems with them. id say one of these is just fine for any midi sequencing needs. when i first started i had one of them joystick port midi interface cables but couldnt get cubase to recognize it. that was al ong time ago though.

id say screw the serial port and get one of the numerous usb interfaces available.

I'm thinking of buying an Mbox for multitracking and sequencing, so what could work ? Anybody owns (or has some strong opinions) about the Steinberg Midex (with LTB technology ?)

What OS do u run?
U need to buy a Steinberg Midex 8 if u run Cubase, u need a AMT8/Unitor8 if u run Logic in Mac OS 9x.

However, if u run Mac OS X 'Midi Timestamping' is coded into the OS an thus u can use ANY manufactures USB interface.

Currently im using Logic 6 on Mac OS X with an AMT8 , im satisfied with the timing, i did however use a Midi-Man Midisport, it was the worst interface concerning timing id have ever seen/used...avoid them like the plague now i do.

I don't care for windowz, but u will need to buy a USB Interface from the same company of the sequencer u are using. Becareful tho usually only the 8 In/Out interfaces from Steinberg/Emagic offer 'Midi TimeStamping' the 4 1in/out units dont. mofo's i know.

I will be using an MBox (ProTools) for multitracking and sequencing on OSX with RTAS synthesisers. The midi sequencer in Pro Tools is more limited but I don't really need more.

So I'm looking for a midi-interface that would be tight and work good with Pro Tools but also in budget, because my Emu is the only outboard gear I use.

Any Idea's ?

Doesn't the Mbox have a midi in and out . if thats the only out board gear you have then a simple usb 2x2 or 1x1 would work depending on what your controller is. do you have Emu keys or Rack with a seperate keyboard. and what Emu are you Rocking ( how many midi channels)

p.s. The Rumor is that ProTools 7.0 is going to have blown out midi support. the works , so get on the Tools now and learn that shit cuz they are going to take the midi sequencer market too.

No midi in or midi out... And I was thinking about the small Steinberg Midex 1 in / 2 or 3 out (the ad said that I was as tight as a hardware sequencer), but also a small serial interface could do the job (but I can't find one).

My Emulator is an old E-Synth Rack (no Ultra), which is basically a E-6400 with an extra synth card. Midi in/out/thru and 8 audio outputs.

I was thinking of buying the Novation Remote to link it directly or thru the G5 to the Emulator and ZoeOS. I will be using only ProTools for multitracking and sequencing (I used Logic before).

Anyone any experience with the Midex ?
