Hi!

first post here although lots of you here know me already... for those that don't.. hello!

I just got an E5000 ultra (with HD fitted) and will be getting a SCSI card for my Mac (G4)

I was told I need a specific cable and that they are hard to find now... so this is the perfect place to ask!

Cheers.

hi ben and welcome. yeah, i don't know who told you the cable would be difficult to find but it should be a cinch. Have you chosen what card you're getting cos it all depends on that. Once you know which card I can advise you. PS. Adaptec 2906 worked well for me on mac.

Yup 2906 is what I'm gonna get by the looks of it. Spoke to Fanu earlier and he said the leads or simple to find.. so um.. no problems I guess.

If you're in the UK, and need cables, I recommend http://www.cableuniverse.co.uk. I've used them for all the SCSI stuff I got for my E5000's external drives, and they were good, fast and cheap.

Furrypop, what Scsi hard drive did you get for your E5000? Thanks.

Actually, I've got an Iomega Zip drive and a nameless external CD-Rom, rather than a hard drive, and I try and struggle by with those.

The CD-Rom often causes the Emu to hang. I only put it in the chain when I need to grab samples/presets from a CD. I then save them onto a Zip disk, unplug the CD-Rom and restart. What an arse!

An Adaptec SCSI card is on the list of gear-to-get. It's just below the patchbay and above the Access Virus ;) . Just got to persuade Mrs Pop...

sorry if im straying from the original post i hope he got what he was looking for but....
So i have yet to buy any type of hard drive for my e6400.

And there are a few choices that i see available.
Which do you prefer or recccomend.
1. the adeptec card straight from my pc (not so good live i would assume).
2.the adeptec card from my pc to an external.
3. A cd drive
4. A cd drive with external hard drive
5. A zip drive.
6. Straight from a g4 laptop
7.g4 laptop to externalHD
8. plugged right into my brain.
Are all or any of these possible first off,
And which do you think is best.

darkrhetoric ->

? in my opinion you would best be served with a Seagate ATA disk mounted internally in the EMU for sample storage and fast loading.

? Second would be an Adaptec 2906 SCSI card for the xfer/rec of sample data.

? Third, id recommend the purchase of ZoeOS from zuonics.com for control and sample management of the EMU. OSX version real soon...i hope ;-)))

I don't really think a SCSI ext CD Rom is required. Im sure its possible to run CD Xtract to get the samples/preset data off CD Rom disks then xfer via SCSI to the EMU and store on the internal EMU disk.

For external storage, i think an External SCSI case with a SCSI disk is going to be difficult and expensive nowa days. My solution was to pick up an IDE to SCSI convertor external case from Acard. It allows the installation of a cheep IDE drive into the case. The case has a SCSI bridgeboard and SCSI connectors on the rear so it can be connected to ANY SCSI chain. In the long run it works out to be much better value. The cost of the case is reasonable but at least u can drop an 80 gig IDE drive in it for next very very little.

Your brain is prolly heavily corrupted, id hesitate in recommending that as a viable solution in this situation
