E4XT Word Clock Sockets

I have an E4XT Ultra that's slightly too large to fit into my flightcase. The back of the sampler has two Word Clock Sockets that protrude out 2cm and I'm thinking of removing them to make the thing fit.

Just wondering what the safest way of doing this, without causing damage to the sampler? I don't really wanna do any permanent damage or anything but i'm not using digital i/o and these sockets are just in the way.

Can I just unscrew them and unplug a multiplug at the motherboard, or are they soldered on or something?

Will the OS complain if they're not there at bootup??

Thanks,

I havent got the digi option!

But is it not just a case of pulling out a ribbon cable and unscrewing the plate?

u will have a nice ventilation gap unless u have the original blanking plates :)

If u want I could swap u the plates for the for your ur digi i/o

i think the digital output option comes on a little board with the ASCII keyboard socket.

The Word Clock ports are on the far side, next to the fan. I'll have to open the sampler to see what the internal connections are like. You're right that there will a couple of big holes! I would be tempted to trade..

Does anyone know if you can use the digi out without the word clock if you sync to the internal sync or via the digi stream? I don't think i'll ever have a use for these word clock ports, and they're getting in the way!
