Has anyone tryed this:
http://www.basscadets.co.uk/emu/faq.htm (last article, where it's taught how to plug and ide hd without the mounting kit)?
i might do it, but what are the types of drives usable? 512mb? 32gigs? 120gigs?
in pcs the total storage space of your hd is limited by the type of bios you have. what about your emu?
thanks

40GB Maxtor HD here, and I've used the hack on that site for both SCSI and IDE drives. Works fine.

i'm concerned with the fact that hd spinning at 7200 or faster should have its own cooler...
something else... this topic was supposed to be "Has anyone tryed using a IDE ***WITHOUT*** the mounting kit ?" and not "Has anyone tryed using a IDE with the mounting kit ?"
what a dork... i can sometimes be :/
thanks for the help... i'll be trying it soon... if you smell something being toasted it's probably my 5000 :)

Since when? I've used 7200rpm hard drives in PC's for the last ten years, and never used a cooler. It'll be fine - go for it!!!
