E5000 Ultra expansions.

Guys,

There are quite a few posts below about getting different expansion kits for Emu hardware samplers.

I've been told (by Turnkey) that, for my E5000, these have all been discontinued by Emu.

Is this true? I wanted to put an internal HD in, but if you can't get the kit, I guess I'll have to go the Adaptec 2930 route.

Any help, much appreciated. I'm in the UK, if you know of any suppliers!

J.

I've had a look inside the emu and to be honest it looks as if you dont need the 'specialised' emu hard drive fitting kit. I think I can remember some posts from disgruntled customers who bought the kit only to find it contained a couple of screws, a few leads and other bits and bobs that could be bought much cheaper elsewhere. I get the impression that if you've ever fitted a HD in a computer then this isn't going to be too hard. I'm sure someone on this board has fitted one without the official kit.

CAUTION:

afaik, the voltage is different than in e.g. a pc... I've heard from fried hard disks...

Nope, not the voltage is different, but they flipped the polarity... Building the power cable is quite easy. I did and it works flawless.

That's cheeky

I now remember seeing a handful of posts from people who fried their drives. Was it just a case of crossing 2 wires then. If anyone has got the time then a few pics and a little tutorial might be a nice addition to this site.

Hope this helps:

As I mentioned it's not a big deal to build this cable. However, I've got some old PSUs so I could make something like a 'step-by-step picture tutorial' if it helps you.
