RFX Compressor for External Audio Sources

i'm wondering if anyone has used their RFX Compressor plugin in place of a "real" compressor a lot? i'm in NO market right now for a good compressor, but thought, why not run through the RFX Compressor for a cheap substitute? anyone do this? is the quality OK? i figure it has to be better than a crappy ass outboard compressor...

I've recently been playing with routing signal in and utilizing the filters and effects...then I thought why not use it for compression, especially w/ the 24bit INs/OUTs?

Yup, did that...

I did like it - it does color the sound, but in fact offers you a lot of possibilities that a lot of cheaper compressors don't.
I used it for a vocal track and there I put something like four compressors in series. Would be quite expensive even with cheap compressors (except softeware ones)...

My other compressors are:

triple c
samson s-com plus
Roland vs1680 FX

I have worked with some of the waves plugins at a friend's studio.

I think you can compare them to the Roland VS compressors (though I deifnitely liked the RFX better). They have their own color and you can love it or hate it. They are definitely more versatile than the Roland ones if you don't need sidechain compression (which I often use...)

any reason you don't use it for external stuff? oh maybe, unlike me, you actually have a decent outboard compressor!

i have the 24 bit Ins/Outs for my E4, so i'm going to just try it out running external audio through it for compression. see if it's worth it.

not realy, i have my Outboard -Focusrite and Plugs -Wave C1 C4 .....and it works fine.
I need the most of the RFX -Power for EQ and Delay. And the Power of a RFX Card is "limited" you know ;-) .
I Still work with Two Emu?s ( 2X RFX and 2X 24Bit Analog Input and Adat i/o) but i arrive more than often at the limited Power.

Tell me about your experiences!

Funny that I found the RFX comp more colorin than my samson s-com plus and you state it's very clean...That shows how different every one describes the same thing...
