Does Eoslink need SCSI / MIDI / Both ?

If both, will I be able to control the unit with MIDI only ? I don`t need sample transfer.

P.S. I know it`s shitty. I need to try something.

external MIDI

Hi!

You'll need connect your E-mu to your PC via SCSI to use EOSLink. This will allow you to edit presets, edit samples, and basically push the E-mu's buttons from your PC (useful if your buttons get a bit 'sticky', like they tend to do).
MIDI will allow you to trigger sounds from an external device (PC sequencer software / midi controller), and control preset parameters in real time; filter frequency, envelope parameters, LFO rates etc.

I read one of your posts, and you have an E-synth right? If you have a PC, and get some sequencer software like cubase VST, you can connect via MIDI (no need for SCSI). You'll be able to 'record' synth lines as a series of 'note on' & 'note off' controllers, and 'record' continuous controllers (filter frequency etc.) using knobs A-H on your E-synth, edit them & play them back as a sequence.

Hope I hav'nt been patronising, or missed the point! I am assuming you come from a keyboard playing background, and do not use external MIDI.

Good luck, and happy programming!

Thanks McNasty :))

You very much answered my question. I teach at a music academy. We have a couple of EOS machines (one for every computer). My PC display is duplicated to the students' screens (with VNC). I tought I would use EOSlink to control my sampler, and that way all the students will see what I`m doing.

Is EOSlink as bad as some say ? Will it be fine for such simple use ? Crashy ?? Slow ???

our best synth was a DX7!

haha.. sorry man,
thought you just played keyboard & wanted to know the difference between EOSLink & MIDI!
Yeah, as long as the students can see your mouse pointer, should be fine.
You'll need to connect via SCSI to hear the changes. I'm not sure, but it might be possible to just run EOSLink unconnected, to show them how to navigate menus etc.
It's a small, simple program, so shouldn't be crashy or slow.
Can't do much harm to try it out.

You must have good music facilities in Israel, our best synth was a DX7!

:)

EOS familiy is getting pretty old too..

Our newest synth is Nord Modular.

The oldest Moog modular (not THAT different...) :))

Hiya,

Anyone know about a later version of EOSLink than 1.0.0.5 ?
I'm having no problems at all with this, but maybe in a later version the gui can be minimised to just the display, since some people (me included)use an ascii keyboard to use the Emu (no need for me to see the black emulated buttons  ).
Maybe someone has the skills to write something similar ? I'd pay some for this. No frills, just to see the sampler's display on my computer display would be enough for me.

cheers
Ronald

You can do that. Double-click the display area.

Well, if I do that, it also reduces to approx 50% of the original size.
