hi guys

after many weeks of searching how to get emu cds to ide hd
i found most programs only dealt with scsi chains so this left me wondering about the ide in the emu
what i could not understand was sounddriver could see the emu ide drive in the emu but never done to much ie could not find way to add ect so that got me thinking of scsi and see that i could rip zip drive to a img then i could load in daemon so then i thought to my self why cant emu hd not seen in windows when connected to ide in pc then i thought i would be like a emu cd
and need specail program to see it
so open chicken translotor and there was the emu drive :) [ in scsi section formated in emu format]
so heres my sollution
after trying many programs and probs i think iv done it
1st we need a few tools
chicken translator
this might not work with akai cds but emu works np
1 start with formating your hd in your emu too emu format
2 take hd out of emu put on pc ide
3 load your cdrom in pc if cdrom

4 open chicken translator u will see your emu drive as a scsi drive
5 left click on your hd in chicken transltor then right click select create folder add name of cd u adding if adding a akai cd .format your hd to akai format in chicken tranlator not shure how much u will get on thou
6 left click on cdromor dvd in chicken tranlator [now u will see the contents of the cd on the right hand side if just presets just grab them all.
drag in to the folder u made in 5 but
if u see folders u will have to open each partion and move all presets
u can only move prests not folders
ie akai disks and some emu have folders
iv tryed to do this in fat mode but does not seen to tranlate for some reason
this should be good if u got many sample cds to put on your hd

now do u want to back up stuff from your zip drive
in chicken translotor
1 left click on your zip drive in chicken translotor now right clicl select create virtual drive
2 select copy entire size hit write virtual drive
3 select place to save on pc not emu drive
4 now u have img u can burn or load in chicken translotor and send back to zip or send to your hd

im still trying to get it perfect the 2 prob i have is the folders
u cant drag folders with chicken translator + chicken traslotor is not the most stable program in the world if dont work 1st time try again :)
+ can only get 8 cds on my hd before it comes up folder full then deletes all so beware im still working on think might be hd prob
but hey iv got 8 emu disks in my emu @ last big smiles here about 8 gig of samples + presets i never had in before
this tutorail should be help full to those of u with just a zip drive and a ide hard drive
its a bit of work but worth it if u want to use orbit + planet phatt emu cds ect
and does any 1 know what the problam is
i got 20 gig hd and when filling the hd it comes up folder full
but only 8.752 gig used then deletes all i just added and have to start again :( this is all emu format is emu format limited in size ?
im getting 4 10 gig hds tonight so il test more on the probs i had
il post up soon the results
and people might think this might be a nightmare
but once u move 1 cd u can do in a few more in no time @ all much better than doing a preset @ a time ie if your in fat
i just checked and only emu cds work so far not akai i got a prob loading akai in the emu but il get that sorted

if any 1 finds a better way to deal with ide hd please give me a buzz :)

I thought id stick this on the end of this thread because it seems relevant . You know you can get free music on those naughty peer -to -peer sites , well you can get AKAI sample CD files aswell , like Akai Funk Guitars in an " img." format. Well how the fuck do you burn it properly so that your scsi drive can send it to the EMU. (and please no-one send me to 'Tweakheadz page') , sorry I didnt read the above post , sometimes they are too much.

if its a emu or akai cd your pc wont see it
burn the img as normal
get something like cdxtract to check if cds ok :) [u can xtract wavs programs from it ect

or chicken translor should see it and beable to send too

but rember emu akai cant be read under windows
or get daemon tools to host your img in virtural drive then use cdxtract or chicken translator
saves burning if u want samples straight away

Did anyone find a way to efficiently copy Akai CDs to EMU IDE HD (Fat32)?
Whenever I try to do so with Translator and then load a preset in my E5000, it says "Sample Memory Full" .....

emu ide hdd backups and scsi

in answer to the question put in the top post:if you have an ide hard disc in your emu,you should also have a scsi port at the back of it.get yourself an external case, put a scsi cd rom(or dvd ram) in it and backup your cd`s to the ide drive in the emu from the cd rom. this method should work for emu cd`s but not akai. traxzone. 8-)

sslneve:
If you are still getting this problem chase chicken systems. As you'll be buying (unless you bought already?) the product in order to convert whole CDs it's in their interest to fix it. In fact as the free version and commercial version differ the problem may not even exist with the commercial version (chicken systems should be able to tell you if so - although you might still want them to fix the free version for you to test satisfactorily). Again I can't repeat your problem with removable media and the free version after hundreds of attempts.

Just an afterthought. If you already have another akai CD translation application (Awave, CDXTract, Halion, Kontakt, emulatorX(??) etc.) then you could use these in tandem with the free version via an intermediary format (Halion, Kontakt...) to convert whole disks - but don't tell chicksys I told you.... and make sure you download translator free quick before they remove this ability

Should have thought of this one before. Not sure if it is the cause of your problem but I did get the sample memory full error with a test just now. When I convert samples I use the eos bank destination format NOT the Eos FAT bank format. The resulting files end in E4b like a fat bank is supposed to. When I choose FAT banks I get the error you're having. Go figure...

Thanks, this sounds very promising to me, though I cannot find the place where I choose between EOS or EOS FAT. Could you point me to that please?

personally I drag the presets from their source to the destination drive. I then get a list of all possible destination formats and I then choose eos bank as the one I want...

I get that list too, but I havent seen an EOS FAT entry there. Which format settings are you using to get correct results?

Well now I'm stumped. The top of the right column of destination formats has 5 emu related formats and the first one is eos bank and the second is EOS FAT Bank. I choose eos and it works, eos fat and it doesn't. In an attempt to figure out why you aren't getting FAT I seem to have screwed up my settings and it won't even convert (not even after careful restoration of the previous settings - Translator Free has always had that feel about it to me). Thankfully I'm done with it anyway, but I'm a bit stuck as to how to solve your issue. At some point I'll restore my pc from a disk image and I guess it will work again but as everything else is running sweet I'm in no hurry, sorry. I'd contact chicken systems if I were you, as I said before they have a vested interest in fixing the free version to encourage sales.

Sorry that you had to mess up your settings... I still cannot see that damn EOS Fat Thing, thought I can see EOS Bank. Which version are you using? What is your destination disk formatted with? Do you see an Emu formatted SCSI HD in Translator?

version 2.9 build 107

fat formatted by emu

No SCSI HD just a regular pc removable drive.

No problem on the screwed settings, I don't have any need for it anymore.
