E4XT Ultra Load/Merge Problem

When I attempt to load a new sample bank, the system merges the currently loaded bank back into itself, sometimes four or five times in a row (or until the sample memory is full), before letting me select a new bank. I push the "Load" button, and before I can do anything, then system is merging the same bank into itself, as though I had pushed "Merge" immediately after pushing "Load" -- they are assigned to the same button on the console. The button doesn't appear to be physically sticking, and it makes no difference in the way I push it, as far as I can tell, so I figure this must be a software issue.
I have recently updated the EOS to 4.61, and that made no difference. I am at my wits end -- it makes navigating between banks very time-consuming. Please help!
