Hi all,
as you might have read my unit has a heat problem. I've now opened the case to feel how hot the numerous parts do get during idle time and normal operation...

Wow, the heatsinks of my PSU (65W) get so hot I can't touch 'em! The ICs of my RFX card get also quite hot but you can at least put fingers on them for about 10 seconds before getting fried.

Can you confirm this???

I can only assume you are able to touch the heat sinks because you have the fan shroud removed from the power supply. The fan is there for a reason. If you remove the fan shroud you will not have adequate cooling.

Nope, I removed it just to check the headsinks How should I otherwise be able to touch them? I have done this after I experienced crashes (see link above)...

I just like to know whether your heatsinks are also that hot...
I plan to install a bigger 80mm (but less noisy) fan without the shroud which then also cools the RFX. I think removing the extension slot covers will improve the situation futher so air can really circulate.

Update:

I installed a second fan (80mm low-noise) right onto the shroud (where the holes are, next to the RAM slots). It blows into the shroud, hence supporting the original 40mm out-take fan. To get some nice air circulation I removed the slot covers of OUTPUT PORT #1-#3. This way cool air can be sucked in and the warm air from within the unit is constantly (ok, sort of) replaced which also cooles down the RFX! As a last step I'm going to mount a few heatsinks onto the RFX ICs to increase their lifespan

By the way, even without the heatsinks my unit is again stable now. I've tested it with 25 complete RAM test cycles and some more idle time - without a single crash!
