Flickering lines and lights on emu

Just started using my machine again after a bit of a break. It was fine for a few days when all of a sudden the backlight on the screen went and flickering horizontal lines appeared. Also, the master and disk browse lights are stuck on as well as the preset edit and manage lights. The midi and scsi lights are flickering as well. Needless to say, the sound cuts out when this happens, rendering it unuseable. It seems to happen once it warms up, if I leave it off for a day then this happens within around 5 minutes of startup. After that it happens before it's even finished booting. Has anyone had this misfortune with their machine? Could this be the end of my bird? Cheers for any input in advance.

sounds like you have a dying power supply. if your emu has a hard drive, disconnect it and see if the problem continues. if it does, time for a new power supply.

Thanks for the quick response mate. I disconnected the white plug from the hd and it still happenned. Should I be disconnecting the ribbon as well? Thanks again, this place coming through with the goods as usual. ;)

How much are you looking at for a new power supply these days anyway?

Or would it be easier to buy a new emu altogether?

Hey there,

A new PSU can run you anywhere between $60-130 depending if you buy a genuine part or a substitute/equivalent and also on your location. A new E-mu is gonna be much more, so look into getting the PSU replaced. If you're in the US, contact www.eprelectronics.com.
