After testing, screen a darker shade

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if you've had this problem before but after testing my E6400 classic, particularly using the panel test, the screen comes out a darker shade of grey, from clear.

This is something I've become quite accustomed to on other E-MU samplers (even my E4XT Ultra) but normally a simple EPROM reinitialisation solves the problem.

This time, it managed to save the screen in the darker shade before the eprom reinitialisation. Damn - it now loads darker.

I've tried a flash reinstall but to no luck.

Is this a quirk of 2.8?

Is there a cure?

This is a tricky one - any ideas?

I've read the posts on contrast and darker screens.

It isn't a contrast issue.

This isn't hard drive related because:

A - its exactly the same without the hard drive plugged in.

B - its a brand new power supply.

C - The screen is beaming bright around the edges

D - The nature of how this occurred is akin to testing of my other samplers.

I think it maybe worth me noting that in regards to a hard drive, the screen was like this prior to putting on in.

Its a new power supply so its not worth investigating that.

At contrast 7 - the screen is clear to view with only a light grey background.

I've checked the hard drive to make sure it was an original EOS compatible type, inline with E-MU power requirements.

Any other ideas would be of help.

Could it be an eeprom problem?

Hi everyone,

I know the problem.

Basically, the sampler's resolution was always set to 7 but I was unaware of this feature. The EEPROM test reset it to the factory of 0 and then the screen became dark.

The screen was on its way out and it had been set to 7 to disguise the problem.

Sneaky!

Run the diagnostics if you're about to buy a sampler from a store.

Cheers,

Andy
