Flash RAM woes.

I've just taken delivery of an E5000. All looks good, but, I have a 32Mb Flash RAM chip that doesnt seem to be recognized. I've tried loading a bank into it as per the instructions on the 16Mb .pdf but the machine doesnt seem to recognize it. It'll only allow me to save to HDD or Floppy. Is there a simple way to tell if it's working? I've been checking the manual but feel like I'm chasing my tail. Serious information overload.
