Hello everyone

After the PSU collapsed because a HD and a RFX card were installed inside my 6400 Ultra (not enough power only 45 watts) the Flash RAM seems to be empty and there's no way for me to run the flash preparation because the floppy reader does not react at the booting process, also the LCD display is blank.

But if I put the 4 Mo Flash ram module from my 4XT ultra in the 6400 Ultra's motherboard, then the unit works fine.
The question is : How can I restore the 4 Mo Flash ram module?

I'll be adding some details about it if needed please do no hesitate to ask

I already sent the 4XT ultra to a specialized center in Germany, they kept it for six month before replacing the motherboard for a 6400 one. When I received the unit I powered it on for the first time and the same trouble appeared again (at the booting process the LCD display was blank and a few leds were lit at the same time in the front pannel, the unit could not boot ) so it was not the motherboard the origin of the trouble.
They gave me back my mother board and when I replaced the PSU and the Flash module the unit worked for a few days before colapsing again.
To be frank and according to my experience I dont put any hope on the reparing service.
The fact that I installed a HD and an RFX cart into the 4xt ultra might be the cause that the PSU collapsed
I bought a 6400 Ultra to exchange parts between them and after a few test I still don't understant why the 4XT works for a few days and then when I switch in on one morning it can't boot anymore.

You will not be able reburn the flash yourself. Also I'm not sure if you're saying the E-mu works perfectly with the E6400 flash or if it works for a few adays and then fails.

Tbh if you had any work done then it should be under guarantee, especially if it's still the same problem and taking 6 months on the job is a joke. Out of interest is the place you used approved by E-mu.

I've used this place myself, they are approved by E-mu, and I have found them to be good. They fixed mine within days and I haven't had a problem since.

Maybe give them a ring as just sending the flash, if you are sure it's that, shouldn't cost too much.

Do you think that this could be the same problem with the E4K? I cannot load the OS into the flash ram...And which part is the Flash Ram? confused?/

i also cant upgrade te os version to 4.7 the systems powers on normally but i suspect is has to do with faulty flash mem...any ideas ?...and what about the flash prep utlity ?...how does it work ?...

Hi there, you are fortunaqte to be in the UK were you have service points here in South Africa there is NO service agents for these machines...I would have to send it to the UK, if so do I just send them the board?...If I have to send them the whole keyboard It would cost me a fortune!!!

Good question...Looks like we are in the same boat here...PLease! if you do find out by some other source please pm me and let me know! and I'll do the same for you...Nothing more frustrating than sitting with a powerful board and not a damn thing you can do!!! specially here in SA...I think I'm the only one here who has one, so any services I wouls hgave to get it serviced or parts from the UK!...Just like I had to get a cable and floppy drive as I thought this could be the issue but Alas!

btw i have 2 emu 6400 ultras and the other one works fine...the weird thing is that i can see the flash ram on the config window so maybe i just need to change slots for the flash ram on the "faulty" one...heard the flash costs around 150$ which is pricey nowdays...

It's well worth it to get the E4K going provided that is the problem!!! from SA it the shipping that's expensive but I don't mind paying the price if it is that already I spend a few hundred rand on the floppy disc plus the cable and found out it was not that! so by the time I'm finished assuming it's this or that and money spent I'm still sitting without the E4K (white elephant!
