hello,
if i switch to truncate or AX or FIR or compressor or whatever in sample edit,
it takes ages to load and when the next screen, with the waveform visible comes on,
it lags something incredible, and if i try to move say the sample start it resets itself to 0 immediately.
Other than that its fine. The only thing that happened to it is someone happened to pull the power chord out on it earlier that evening.
please, for the love of pete, help me

Couple of things to check.
Firstly do you have other midi devices plugged in as I think pitch bend moves the sample cursor position.
Secondly, your main dial thingy on the emu may have the classic static problem which is fixable, although I don't thing the later emu models had this problem (someone please correct me if this is wrong).

What is the "static problem" and how do you fix it? I think this might be what my issue is.

I think illinformed meant the issue with the jog dial or better the worn out encoder.
There are some articles about this issue.
In brief:
When dialing the encoder clockwise with "a normal" speed, the value at thr cursor position jumps back and forth. You are not in the position to change the value with the jog dial.
Issue:
The built in encoder has a fixed lifetime of ??? revolutions.
It gets worn out and causes false impulses that are interpreted by EOS as correct impulses in the opposite dialing-direction, followed by the appropriate action for these "correct" impulses.
As a result there is round about one or two "false" impulse created for every right impulse.
Temporary solution:
Use two electrolytic capacitors as described in the article of Dr. Joerg Sigle.
Better solution:
Replace the encoder with a new one.
