hi
I tried updating the os since previously it was on 3.00b.I downloaded the programs from emu site and followed the instructions in the eos upgrading thread.
inserted the flash prep disk first ,it did this really quick? and then asked for another disk ,"insert NEW SW disk, then ENTER. so I put the 4.62 disk in and hit enter. it then asked me "software found on floppy: EOS v4.62 update FLASH from floppy?" I don't understand why its asking to update the flash again? i've already done that right? if I click no (exit) it just goes back in a circle and asks me the same question ,if I click yes (enter) it says "updating FLASH from floppy...
EOS v4.62
Erasing FLASH..."
then last line changes to "Updating FLASH..." then I get an error message pop up quick and the next screen says "try to boot from FLASH?" if I say "yes" I then get another error "checksum failed" and get asked to update flash again and it just goes around in a circle.

edit:
I think it could be that I don't have enough flash memory, how do I check how much flash memory I have? and how do I upgrade it? for now I would go back to 3.00b but I cant find a download link for eos 3.00b anywhere?

Well, Flash Prep prepares Flash Ram to read compressed EOS file, as this EOS 4.62 is larger then fit on floppy normally.
So I think you just have a normal 6400 Classic with 1 MB Flash Ram, but you need the 2 MB Flash module (check ebay or exchange your sampler for one with latest EOS installed, or you might wait a loooong time). You can check how much Flash Ram you have under MASTER > Utils > About > Config. I hope you'll be able to install EOS 3.oob again on your machine (dunno if Flash Prep did something 'bad'), and then recalibrate (check the manual).

hi, thanks.

I ran a search on these forums and found this:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=654&p=3614&hilit=updating+flash+ram#p3614

I get the same type of error, a "csum failure" does this mean its a problem unrelated to the flash ram?

Most likely, for me that's just the message you get when you try to extract EOS to a Flash Ram that's too small (guess it compares bits & bytes of both) Have you checked your Flash Ram, if it's 1 MB (must) return to EOS 3.0b. If however it displays a checksum error during process of goin' back to EOS 3 I can only ASSUME Flash Prep did something bad to your Flash, can't tell as I updated my samplers straight years ago, without any problem. Some peeps had problems with the EOs 3.0b in the DL-section, saying what's that Roland sampler utility bla... little confusing ;)
I can tell you that it extracts the right EOS, I told a guy on german synth-forum recently, and he succeed with creating a EOS 3.0b floppy.
